Who Are We?

Addressing Educational Inequities

The Edmonton Education Equality Society (EEES) was founded by a group of university students from marginalized and underserved communities. Their shared experiences of the inherent structural inequities within academia and higher education motivated them to incorporate a society that supports youth in underserved communities in pursuing their higher education goals.

EEES is committed to supporting youth from marginalized populations in their pursuit of Higher education. Through our programs we aim to encourage students to get involved in the community while simultaneously cultivating skills to prepare them for further post-secondary education. EEES emphasizes helping students primarily from marginalized backgrounds emphasizing our efforts towards youth from low socioeconomic, immigrant, 2SLGBTQI+ or BIPOC backgrounds. Through continued efforts, we hope to address the inequities in obtaining education faced by these communities and hope to better allow these students to thrive at the post-secondary level.

Our
Mission
Statement

Provide the support necessary within available resources to enhance the academic potential of the youth we serve, as well as create a safe and inclusive space for self-identified BIPOC, immigrant, and low SES students through social engagement and activities.

We are committed to providing representation and empowering youth with the knowledge that anything is possible, through mentorship programs that connect youth with both established professionals and post-secondary students who come from underserved communities and backgrounds.

We aim to provide youth from underserved communities with network support and improve their social capital to provide them with future opportunities.

Through our programs, we aim to uphold the UN sustainable development goals of quality education and reduced inequality by directly addressing the educational disparities and inequalities that are reflected in the reduced educational outcomes of Edmonton youth from underserved communities. In doing so, we hope to empower our communities to achieve inclusive and quality education for all and re-affirm the belief that education is one of the most powerful and proven vehicles for sustainable development

Our long-term goal is to support the future creation of sustainable and equitable communities within Edmonton; by providing BIPOC, immigrant, and low SES youth with community-based mentorship and academic support for the betterment of their educational outcomes and enabling them with the skills necessary to pursue and thrive in higher education.
